GSU was founded in 1913 as the Georgia School of Technology’s Evening School of Commerce. Due to the recognition it quickly gained as a premier metropolitan college, it was renamed the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia in 1947.
With this new status came independent accreditation for all academic divisions. In 1955, the school was renamed the Georgia State College of Business Administration and finally became known as Georgia State University in 1969.

Most GSU degree programs are entirely online and don’t require campus visits. There are, however, some programs that will require occasional on-campus visits. Your academic advisor will notify you if you are required to attend some on-campus study sessions.
