GSU was founded in 1913 as the Georgia School of Technology’s Evening School of Commerce. Due to the recognition it quickly gained as a premier metropolitan college, it was renamed the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia in 1947.
With this new status came independent accreditation for all academic divisions. In 1955, the school was renamed the Georgia State College of Business Administration and finally became known as Georgia State University in 1969.

GSU offers scholarships based on academic merit and financial need. The university provides departmental scholarships and university-wide awards for which enrolled students can apply. Applications for the next academic year start from December through February. New students receive scholarship information in your acceptance letter if they are eligible.

Most GSU degree programs are entirely online and don’t require campus visits. There are, however, some programs that will require occasional on-campus visits. Your academic advisor will notify you if you are required to attend some on-campus study sessions.

No. At a minimum, you will only need consistent access to a functional laptop, internet connectivity, and basic computer knowledge on how to troubleshoot a few everyday computer issues. GSU will provide you with tutorials for advances or special applications required during your studies.
