Acceptance rates at Georgia State University

Students considering Georgia State University often wonder about their odds of acceptance and the school’s criteria for admission.

While these requirements can vary between incoming first-year students and transfer students coming from another college or university, the questions remain the same, with many students wanting to know the following:

  • Is Georgia State University easy to get into?
  • What GPA do you need to get into Georgia State University?
  • Can I get into Georgia State University with a 2.5 GPA?

To help put your acceptance worries to ease, here’s a rundown of acceptance rates and criteria at Georgia State University.

Is Georgia State University easy to get into?

Georgia State University’s acceptance rate is around 67%, making it a moderately selective university. This is on-par or slightly more selective than most other public universities in Georgia but higher than private colleges and universities, which tend to have a lower acceptance rate and require a higher GPA and standardized test scores to gain admission.

What GPA do you need to get into Georgia State University?

Like most colleges and universities, Georgia State University considers several factors when admitting incoming first-year and transfer students. Georgia State University requires incoming undergraduate students to provide scores for either the SAT or the ACT. Nearly half of all incoming students had an SAT score between 1000 and 1199, and 80% had an 800 – 1199. Lower high school grade point averages, can be partially offset by excelling in the SAT and scoring at the higher end of this range or beyond.

Can I get into Georgia State University with a 2.5 GPA?

A grade point average of 2.5 is the minimum GPA accepted by Georgia State University for incoming transfer students who have completed at least 30 credits of college coursework. Given the requirements for transfer students, incoming first-year students likely need to have a GPA of above 2.5 to be accepted unless scores on any standardized tests, such as the SAT or ACT, are above average to compensate for a lower high school grade point average.
